Diego Torres is film director, poet and painter, born in the La Paz, Bolivia.
He began in the cinema in the years seventy, with the shortfilm 'Threshold' that received a prize
in the competition 'Condor de Plata', organized by OCIC-Bolivia in 1977.
He was professor in the Work Shop of cinema of the University San Andrés in 1979 and starting from
1982 he directed that Work Shop that became the first School of Cinema in Bolivia and of which a
generation of new filmmakers arose in cinema and videotape.

Between 1977 and 1995 he produced more than fifteen shortfilms, in Bolivia and in Paris, France.
In 1996, when being turned twenty years of their film works, the Bolivian Cinemateca organized a cycle
of its main shortfilms. In 1997 he begins the filming of the feature length film 'The street of the Poets'
that was screened for the first time in 1999 in La Paz and later on exhibited in Paris and Washington.
With that 'opera prima' he was invited to the international Festival of Marseille, France, Festival of
Kansas City, United States in the year 2001 and Brussels, Belgium in 2002.

'Alma and the trip to the sea', is his second feature film and the first digital
movie of fiction carried out in Bolivia. It was exhibited in the Festivals of Kansas City, Panama and
Vienna, Austria, as well as in London and Washington, during 2003. It also participated in the Festivals
of Berlin and Bratislava in 2004 and in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Loja, Granada in 2005.
'The law of the night', is his more recent production and the first GLBTmovie filmed in Bolivia. It has
participated in the Festivals of New York and Madrid in 2005 and it has been distinguished with a Special
Mention in the Spanish capital. |
As independent film director Diego Torres has carried out innovations in the film language and he
constitutes a relating of the Bolivian artistic vanguard in the field of the poetry and the plastic arts.
Besides film director he has acted as university professor and organizer of numerous cinema courses and
video in diverse cultural institutions. His concern for the situation of the environment, it has taken it
to found an environmentalist movement in Bolivia. |

His film work is present in the Videoteca del Sur, New York, in the Catalog of Latin
American cinema of the Festival of Los Angeles, in the Bolivian Cinemateca and in files of several
International Festivals.
